The STAR Story

STAR was established in 1952 by parents who believed that children with developmental disabilities were entitled to the same basic opportunities in their home community as other children and as an alternative to institutionalization.

Today, STAR, Inc. Lighting the Way… has grown to include a full array of services for over 600 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, from birth to their senior years. STAR services include Early Childhood Intervention Services through its STAR Rubino Family Center, High School Transition Programs, Adult Employment Programs,  Adult Day Supports and Residential Living, Senior and Memory Care Day Services,  Family Supports and Recreational Programs. Services are provided in lower Fairfield County, CT primarily in the towns of Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton, Weston, Westport and Darien with office locations in Norwalk, New Canaan and Darien.

Our Mission

STAR is a not–for-profit organization serving individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families.

We create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. We inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals. Our goal is the inclusion of all individuals with disabilities in their community.
